I was kind of hesitant about setting up a Twitter account. Why would anybody care to hear what I had for breakfast in 140 characters or less? But then I started to realize that I was missing the whole point. Twitter is more than status updates – it’s a conversation. Where Facebook allows you to connect with people you do know, Twitter is great for connecting with people you don’t know.
Here’s how you can get started
- Go to twitter.com
- Join the conversation by clicking the “Sign up now” button
- Input your name, create a username and password, enter your email address and then type in the security word(s)
- Click “Create my account”
When you get to your homepage you will be asked a question: What are you doing? And you can say something like: I’m loving the new Aion game.
But don’t forget, you only have 140 characters to say what you want. Once you hit the update button, pat yourself on the back because you just posted your first tweet.
You use the @ symbol to send messages to a person or group. For example: @cduker Thanks for the tips on setting up a Twitter account. (I’m cduker by the way.)
If you like what someone has tweeted you can share or rebroadcast that message to your followers by retweeting it.
Like this: RT @cduker I’m turning into a sweet tweet machine!
Here’s a quick how-to Twitter clip I found for you:
