Fund your eWallet and transfer money online

This post was written by Lea K. She is the Manager of Consumer Marketing and currently manages all customer marketing programs. This is the third in a series of posts where Lea will be talking about the benefits of using a NETELLER eWallet. You can read the first post here, and the second post here.

OK, so now you know what an eWallet is and why you’d need one. The next logical step is figuring out how you spend your hard-earned money.

Different ways to use your NETELLER account

By now you know that you can send money to multiple merchants, but I like to use this account as my “travel budget.” I simply transfer a little money each month into my NETELLER account to help save for my annual vacation. Since my account is in Euro (and I’m planning a trip to Greece next summer), I can save in the currency that I’ll be using on my trip (with no surprises or huge credit card bills to pay off post-vacation).

I’m planning on using my Net+ card to pay for hotels while in Greece and I can easily access funds at local ATMs that bear the MasterCard® symbol.

Control your spending with Net+

You can use your Net+ card to pay anywhere MasterCard is accepted. It’s quick and easy to do. Plus, consider the money in your NETELLER eWallet account your “discretionary” funds. It’s a great way to control your spending. It’s also private. No statements are sent to your home address. This includes your Net+ usage too so there’s no paper trail of your shopping habits. Go ahead and buy those shoes in every colour!

Send money around the world

I also send money to family. My niece, who lives in Mexico, is going to be 1 year old in December, but since I can’t be there I’m sending her money (via her Dad of course) for her birthday. This is the quickest, safest and cheapest way I’ve found to send her cash for her birthday.

Now that you know all about the NETELLER eWallet, I’d love to hear how will you use it.

The evolution of the credit card

Today’s post was written by Nicole. She is the Marketing Manager for Consumer Products on our Brand and Group Marketing team.

Years ago, you’d see people listening to their favourite music on clunky, over-sized portable CD players, but over time we saw tiny MP3 players emerge and take their place. Technology definitely revolutionized how we listen to our music – from playing songs off our computers to listening to tunes on a 1-inch player.

Virtual security

A similar comparison can be made about credit cards. Their technology is continually advancing to help protect your money. For instance, the major credit card brands recently introduced virtual prepaid cards that contain next-generation security features and are especially designed to protect you from fraud and identity theft whenever you pay online.

Embrace your online world

Security in “real world” transactions is knowing that your physical card is always protected from shady individuals, thanks to the added security of chip and PIN technology.

In the online world you don’t have the same protection, which is why virtual prepaid cards have their own unique security features. Most generate a one-time use number, CVC and expiry date each time you make an online purchase, thus keeping your card details safe from hackers or thieves.

There are various incarnations of the virtual prepaid card out there. For example, PayPal only offers a virtual debit card accessible from the toolbar, whereas NETELLER offers up two convenient options of its Net+ virtual prepaid card. You can either access your virtual “web card” from your NETELLER account or the desktop version that notifies you when you can use it at a checkout page. With cards like these to choose from, you can pay online to your heart’s content.

Have you ever used a virtual prepaid card? Tell us which one and what you thought of it.

NETELLER launches Ukash in 9 countries

Today’s post was written by Suzanne. She is the Marketing Program Manager for member communications and promotions on our Brand and Group Marketing team and she’s got some exciting stuff brewing for November so stay tuned.

For years NETELLER members residing in Ireland, Spain and the United Kingdom have been instantly depositing into their NETELLER accounts using Ukash. Today we have expanded our offering of this great deposit option to more countries. Members in the following countries can now instantly and conveniently deposit using Ukash:

  • Austria
  • Belgium
  • Finland
  • France
  • Germany
  • Italy
  • Netherlands
  • Portugal
  • Greece

Depositing with Ukash is simple. Follow these steps and you’ll have instant access to your funds:

Step 1: Purchase a Ukash voucher
Ukash offers a number of ways to purchase vouchers. Click here to choose your preferred method.

Step 2: Sign in to your account

Step 3: Choose Ukash as your deposit method
Under the deposit tab in your account select “Ukash,” then select “Continue”.

Step 4: Enter the amount of your deposit
Important: An 8% processing fee will be applied to your deposit amount so be sure to take this into account if you are cashing the entire balance of your Ukash voucher. For example, if you purchase a Ukash voucher in the amount of 100 GBP, you will enter 92.59 GBP in the “Amount” field. A 7.41 GBP processing fee will be added to your deposit — your final deposit will therefore total 100 GBP. If you choose to deposit only a portion of your voucher value you will receive a new voucher in the amount of the remaining balance in an email addressed from NETBANX.

Step 5: Confirm your deposit
The amount you enter in the “Total withdrawal from Ukash” field should not exceed the value of your Ukash voucher. If it does exceed the value, select “Change Details” and re-enter the proper amount.

Step 6: Enter your Ukash voucher details
Enter the following details and select the “Pay Now” button:

  • Email address
  • Voucher number
  • Voucher value

You’ve just completed the deposit process and the funds are in your account. Now you’re free to securely and privately spend anywhere online.

Have you used Ukash with NETELLER? If so, tell us what you think!

It’s better than a credit card

This post was written by Lea K. She is the Manager of Consumer Marketing and currently manages all customer marketing programs. This is the 2nd in a series of posts where Lea will be talking about the benefits of using a NETELLER eWallet. You can read the 1st post here.

I already told you the elevator ride version of what a NETELLER eWallet is all about. But sometimes I give the dinner party version too.

Once people hear that it’s more than just a credit card alternative, they start getting interested. They want to know how they get money into their eWallet and that’s when I put my money hat on and tell them more about it.

You can load money into your eWallet in a variety of ways – the choice is yours:

  1. Deposit using a local bank deposit method like Poli (if you’re from the UK or Australia), giropay (if you’re in Germany)  or iDEAL (if you’re in the Netherlands). You can also use your debit or credit card.
  2. Transfer money into your eWallet from a merchant’s site. Simply visit their cashout page and select NETELLER as the withdrawal option.
  3. Receive money from someone through NETELLER Money Transfer.

Many of these options are free to use and we also have frequent “free deposit” promotions which are a great opportunity to load more funds into your eWallet.

Not only do we give you choice in loading your account, we offer dozens of currency options too, which can reduce your overall foreign exchange costs.

Currency choice and foreign exchange fees

Your eWallet lets you transact in multiple currencies because in the online world there are no borders. For instance, even if you live in the UK, you can easily transact online in US Dollars (USD). Just get a USD NETELLER account and once you have loaded your eWallet, you can move your funds to as many different merchants as you’d like without worrying about paying a foreign exchange (FX) fee every time (provided the merchant you deal with transacts in that currency or whatever your currency of choice is). In the long run, you’ll save big on FX fees.

If you’d like to learn more about our eWallet, check this out:

Why Net+ prepaid cards are the best

Today’s post was written by Nicole. She is the Marketing Manager for Consumer Products on our Brand and Group Marketing team.

I recently gave you some great tips on how to choose a prepaid card and why you would use one, but now I’m back to tell you why our Net+ virtual and physical prepaid cards are the best. For one, Net+ won “Best New Prepaid Card Product Launch” at the Cards and Payment Europe 2009 Awards. And if international acclaim isn’t enough for you, check out the top 10 list I put together.

Top 10 reasons why Net+ prepaid cards are second to none

  1. Convenient loading options. We offer a variety of deposit options for loading money into your NETELLER eWallet. And every time you deposit money into your eWallet, it’s instantly available on your Net+ card too. That’s right, no need to move your money between your eWallet and your Net+ card – they draw on the same money!
  2. High ATM limits. At 750 EUR, our ATM withdrawal limits are some of the highest in the biz.
  3. No hidden fees! This means you will never be charged an application or non-usage fee. And to clarify, you will not be charged a monthly fee just to have the card!
  4. Multi-use prepaid cards. Some cards are just one-time use cards, our cards can be used over and over as long as there is money in your account.
  5. Top-of-the-line security features. Chip & PIN technology protect your hard-earned cash.
  6. A virtual counterpart. Our online card version lets you buy your favourite items on the Internet without any security worries. It’s the safest way to buy online because our Net+ virtual prepaid card generates one-time use numbers that can never be used again. That means your card is protected from shady characters who would try to get at your cash.
  7. Get rewards every time you use it! Most companies charge you to use their cards, but we like to give a little something back to our members! Check out our NETPoints program to learn more.
  8. Choose from 8 currencies. For those of you who travel or just want access to other currencies, this is a must-have.
  9. Net+ virtual and physical prepaid cards are accepted worldwide.
  10. net+card_final

  11. This is one piece of plastic you’ll be proud to use. Let’s face it, a lot of prepaid cards look a little dubious and you want to be able to spend with confidence with a card that looks legit. Like this.

Another great thing about Net+ prepaid cards is that the money on your card is yours and you are always in control. So with that powerful arsenal of information floating around in your brain, check out Net+ now and start reaping the rewards.

How does our Net+ top 10 list stack up against other prepaid cards?

Are prepaid cards the new credit cards?

Today’s post was written by Gareth. As NETELLER’s Localisation and Communications Specialist, Gareth manages our translations and multilingual content.

Credit cards are great for young people, but they can also bring trouble. I should know. I had a nasty experience when I was only 19, getting into debt with a credit card I could not handle.

The dark cloud of debt

I wasn’t earning enough money to pay it off, and the debt hung around my neck for months. The interest rate was a punishing 18%! When I finally paid it off, I was poorer, older and wiser. To this day I keep a close eye on my debt obligations, and always pay them off each month.

I recently saw an article about how credit card companies in America are not issuing credit cards to people under 21. It makes sense – young people are often not perceived as mature enough to handle credit, which in my case was true. To paraphrase a famous quote, with credit power comes debt responsibility.

Prepaid cards are a good choice

In many countries they make it hard for young people to get credit cards. It’s for your own protection, right? Maybe, but that’s not much comfort when you’re at the checkout page of your favourite music website, or booking a hotel, and the only payment options are credit cards.

That’s why I enjoy using our Net+ prepaid cards. They offer the convenience of regular credit cards, allowing me to shop online or in person almost anywhere, plus let me make ATM withdrawals. But because it is a prepaid card that is connected to my NETELLER account, I never spend more money than I actually have.

Tell me how you use your Net+ card.

Secure online payment services with an eWallet

This post was written by Lea K. She is the Manager of Consumer Marketing and currently manages all customer marketing programs. This is the first in a series of posts where Lea will be talking about the benefits of using a NETELLER eWallet.

Why I joined NETELLER

I joined NETELLER over 3 years ago and I still remember the job posting clearly. “The world’s leading independent online payments business,” was looking for a marketing manager who could promote, “innovative and instant payment services where money transfer is difficult due to identity, trust, currency exchange or distance.”

I had no idea what any of that meant. Still, I was intrigued by the job and the opportunity to work in the dot com industry. So I applied, nailed the interview, and have been happily working here ever since.

What’s an eWallet?

I had a lot to learn in the early days, starting with wrapping my head around what exactly an eWallet was. By now, I’ve got the elevator version down to an art form. Think of NETELLER as your online wallet. Just as you have a wallet to hold all of your cash when you’re on the go, a secure eWallet holds your cash when you’re online.

You’re probably thinking “So what? I can use my credit card when I’m spending online.” True, but here are the top 3 reasons you need an eWallet:

  1. It’s easier to transfer funds to multiple sites with an eWallet. If you want to transfer money to sites with a credit card, you have to take it out every time and top up those accounts. That means you are entering all your personal and credit card information into every site you visit and keeping cash all over the internet. Instead, an eWallet lets you keep your money (and personal information) in 1 place and you can move it around to any site you want, when you want.
  2. It’s the fastest way to cash out of your favourite sites. Getting your money out of a merchant site can be a real pain. They usually only offer slow and expensive options like cheques. That’s so old school. An eWallet allows you to instantly transfer money from your favourite sites back to your eWallet so that you can pull it out at ATMs or use it at point-of-sale terminals anywhere in the world.
  3. Lots of sites decline credit cards. Need I say more?

Here’s a diagram that I use to help explain how an eWallet works:

image1
Put simply, eWallet is a payment solution designed specifically for the online world, and once you use it, you won’t go back to the old way of doing things. Just like I’ll never go back to my old job.

How do you describe an eWallet to friends? Tell us today.

Being a NETELLER VIP means more than online payments

Today’s post was written by Leanne. She is a Marketing Manager and works mainly on the VIP program. She’s also in charge of the office fish tank.

fishI got my first VIP card the other day. Granted, I got it from an aquarium centre, but still I was pretty excited. I’ve never been a VIP of anything!

See, I had some trouble getting our fish tank set up properly. I started off with a few “experimental fish” to make sure everything was working all right. Unfortunately for Tester 1, it wasn’t. A few adjustments and a quick trip to the pet store later, and Tester 2 and Tester 3 were happily swimming around the tank.

I guess what was bad for Tester 1 was good for the aquarium business, because as I walked up to the cashier to pick up the replacement fish, the lady behind the counter told me I qualified for VIP status.

Images of big discounts, extended warranties, exclusive promos and awesome points programs started dancing in my head. I’m embarrassed to admit that I got excited about what benefits I would earn as a newly-minted fish store VIP.

I later found out that everyone who walks into the store gets a VIP card. There are no barriers, no qualifications and, most distressingly, no benefits associated with VIP membership. Let’s just say I wasn’t pleased. How can you call it VIP if absolutely everyone gets in the program? And why the heck wasn’t I asked the first time I came into the store 5 months ago?

The best eWallet VIP program

It bothered me because I’ve put a lot of time and effort into making our VIP program better than anything out there. I understand how important it is to give your best customers the best treatment. And with exclusive invites, set qualifications and a lengthy list of benefits, our NETELLER VIPs know they’re in an exclusive program the minute they surf through the door.

How do we identify VIPs? Very carefully. We check account activity on our e-wallets every month to make sure that everyone who fits the VIP profile is recognized for their loyalty. And if they aren’t quite there yet, our members can email us at myvipstatus@neteller.com to find out what steps they can take to join the club.

And believe me when I say it’s a club they want to join: VIPs get exclusive benefits like free withdrawals, discounted foreign exchange fees, flexible transaction limits, exclusive prizes and promos, a dedicated VIP team to serve them 24 hours a day. And that’s not to mention the copious amounts of NETPoints that VIP members can earn to enter big cash draws with.

I’ve got to stop myself before I start sounding like a commercial here, but this is what a real VIP program looks like. I’m proud of it, but tell me what you think in the comments.

As for me, I guess I’m stuck with my not-so-exclusive aquarium centre VIP card. At least I’ve got Tester 2 and Tester 3 to keep me company.
