NETELLER wraps up at Betsson Estoril LIVE
Posted by Leanne in Community, Gaming & sports, Poker on November 24th, 2009
In my first 2 posts from Betsson Estoril LIVE I told you about the great people I encountered in Portugal and then I regaled you with some of the fun things that took place at Casino Estoril once the tournament was underway. Sadly, all good things must come to an end. Until next time anyway!
Just a hop, skip and an ocean away
The trip back to Canada was a long one but thankfully I had a ton of great tournament memories packed in my grey matter. While there we had the pleasure of meeting a lot of fantastic local NETELLER account holders who were passionate about their country. If we return we have several invitations to eat and drink as we listen to fado (Portuguese folk music) and talk about their rich history.
The tournament was a success and we hope to sponsor it again in the future. Thanks to everyone who came by to meet us, talk about your account, give your feedback and let us know what you love about NETELLER.
A little Q & A
In the hustle of it all, Gustaf, the Affiliate Director from Betsson, set aside some time so we could ask him some questions.
Q. How long have you worked with Betsson?
A. I have been with betsson.com for the last two years. I work with our marketing team and business development and partnerships.
Q. Were you involved with the first Betsson Estoril LIVE?
A. Yes I was. It was as successful as this event!
Q. Will there be another Betsson tournament in the near future?
A. We have a long-term strategy of meeting our players and partners in live events, so yes, there will hopefully be more events to come.
Q. What is your favourite part of the event and why?
A. I like 2 parts best:
- The welcome party, where we are able to meet and greet all of our players, talk to them and discuss the coming tournament.
- The tournament itself. The ambience of the black and white room is really special.
Q. How was your experience greeting players at the airport?
A. Very good!
Q. Did you get to participate in any of the event activities?
A. Will visit Lisbon tomorrow and hopefully take some players to our wine tasting trip later on this week.
Q. Can you provide us with a brief summary of the overall success of the tournament?
A. This was our second tournament held in Estoril this year. After our success in February we were facing a real challenge making it better. 271 players from 18 countries came to play and during those 4 days we witnessed some great poker in a fantastic atmosphere. To see all the Betsson players enjoying themselves and interacting with each other reminds me why we’re here. It was yet another successful event and look forward to seeing everyone again at the next Betsson LIVE!
Again, obrigado to all that attended (that’s thank you in Portuguese).
Were you at Betsson Estoril LIVE? Did you have fun? Would you like us to sponsor it again?

Day 4 – NETELLER at Betsson Estoril LIVE

In my first post from Betsson Estoril LIVE I told you about the great people I encountered upon arriving in Portugal, the fabulous Betsson team that helped us out and, of course, the grand Casino Estoril. Now that I’m settled in, let me tell you how things are going.
The main event

Registrants began arriving in the afternoon where they were greeted and signed up for VIP accounts. When all was said and done we had welcomed a bunch of new VIPs and members to NETELLER. The main event began at 3:10pm and the hospitality lounge died down immediately as all eyes turned to the tables.
Bittersweet victory
Of course, not everyone can be a winner. As a consolation prize, Miguel got $500 for being first out. I felt horrible for him because he told me that there aren’t a lot of tournaments in Lisbon (and area) so it’s a shame that one of the local players was out so soon. We wish him the best in the future and hope he enjoys his new NETELLER account. Bad tournament luck aside, Miguel was really excited to start using his account and appreciative that he got VIP status for 3 months!
What the players are up to
For those more fortunate at the tables, Betsson hosted a range of activities, including a trip to Lisbon, where the players shopped at their favourite stores and roamed the streets to their hearts content. I hope some of them had a chance to visit venues such as the Castle of Seujorge, Monastery of St. Jeronimos, the Maritime Museum and Monument of Vasio de Gama to catch views of the Tagus River. There’s lots of fun to be had!
Maybe too much fun
As far as the highlight of the night goes, rumour has it that 2 Finnish players went onstage and stapled the program to their tongues while talking to the crowd. Eek! That definitely gave them a good excuse to drink after a stunt like that! The worst part was that we totally missed it!
Who we’ve met so far
We are meeting and greeting members from Iceland, the UK, Germany and a lot from Sweden and Norway. They’re all fantastic and have great senses of humour.
Many of our current members are happy to see us and have stopped by our NETELLER booth to get the most up-to-date information from the source. And the players here are a lot of fun and they’re very enthusiastic about our products.
Stay tuned to hear more about the events at Betsson Estoril LIVE from NETELLER and tell us about your most memorable moments.
NETELLER arrives at Betsson Estoril LIVE

In my previous post I was revving up for the 10-hour trek to Portugal. But it took close to 16 hours – with a rain-soaked stop in Amsterdam – and I arrived safe and sound.
The people and places
The people I have come in contact with have been great! My taxi ride from Lisbon to Estoril was amazing. I saw a lot of the city even though it zoomed by at 160 km/hr. While my cab driver didn’t speak much English, he had no problem telling me where to visit, what to see and urged me to go to Cascais for a day trip. And I’ve heard the shopping in Lisbon is not to be missed.
Cascais
I made my way to Cascais this morning. I found a market where the people were so nice and patient as I tried very hard to understand what they were saying. But my search for a good bottle of port will require more research over the coming days before I settle on one to bring home.
A room with a view

There are many hotels across the street from the Casino Estoril and mine is one of them! The flashing bright lights called to me and I had to go check things out. The casino is a lot bigger than I had imagined, with lights inside and out and it looks quite classy from every view.
There are multiple places to visit with people and relax over a few drinks. And, this provides a great chance to talk with many of the players before the games begin at 9 tonight. There’s a lot of action here so make sure you don’t miss out on the start of the tournament!
The Betsson team
Upon our arrival, the Betsson team was setting up the welcome party which has a great living room feel that is both intimate and inviting. And the staff have been fantastic! I have no doubt that everything will be perfect when the players arrive.
NETELLER welcomes you
Our welcome party tonight will have a fun kick-off show so don’t miss out. From there the players will start testing their skills at 9 pm and run until 3 am.
We’ll be sitting with Betsson at the registration table to greet everyone before moving to our booth when the tournament gets underway. We’ll be at our booth until Tuesday signing people up, giving out great gifts and entering anyone who joins into a draw for a chance to win $1,000 on Tuesday evening! The funds will be credited into the winner’s account no later than Wednesday.
Come and meet us
My colleague Pavlina and I are really excited to be a part of this event. It’s going to be a busy one and we hope to have many guests visit our table so we can share and explain everything that NETELLER has to offer.
And finally, Estoril is an extremely beautiful place: poker, the ocean and a great crowd – it doesn’t get better than this!
Been to Casino Estoril in Portugal? Played in the Betsson Estoril LIVE tournament before? Tell us all about it – we want to hear it!

If you’re anything like me then you’re pumped that there are only a few more sleeps until Betsson Estoril LIVE, our first sponsored tournament! My bags are just about packed (with an endless supply of vegetable bars and soy snacks) and I’m ready to begin the 10 hour adventure to Portugal.
Meet and greet
When we arrive we’ll have a day to put things together before the welcoming event on November 6th. And I’ll be there to meet you guys and listen to all of your feedback.
The event will kick-off with registrations at Casino Estoril (one of the largest casinos in Europe) with a welcome show, shoot-out tournament and single table satellites and sit-and-go after demand. If you decide to walk around, come see me and I can help you register for a VIP membership!
From there on out it’s an endless array of tournaments, events and activities until 3am on November 10th. I may even try to sneak away for a bit to catch some sun and work on my tan.
If you’re going to the event please stop by our booth in the hospitality lounge of Casino Estoril. If you can’t make it we’ll be blogging and tweeting from the event so stay tuned for updates.
What part of Betsson Estoril LIVE are you looking forward to?
Robert Fagg gears up for Rally Yorkshire Challenge Rally
Posted by Chris in Community, Gaming & sports, Guest posts, Sports on September 26th, 2009
Last time out did not bring the result that my driver Matt Edwards and I needed. We traveled over to Ireland to contest the Ulster Challenge Rally, the penultimate round of the Kick Energy Fiesta SportTrophy. Our goal was to build on the success of Matt’s tarmac debut on the Isle of Man and keep the pressure on Fiesta title favourite Craig Breen.
Sadly, Craig didn’t turn out to be the only obstacle in our path.
Watch out for that tree
Just when everything was going well on the opening stage, the car got out of shape on a series of bumps and made heavy contact with a tree. If not for Matt’s reflexes, it could have been a lot worse. Thankfully, we soldiered on to the end of the stage, posting the second quickest time. Matt’s title hopes were stopped there as we were forced to retire due to extensive suspension damage.
Check out our Ulster experience.
A little elbow grease and we’re ready to roll
Since the close call at Ulster, we’ve been restoring the car to its original state. Late Wednesday, Matt finally drove the car away from the workshop. We’ll be able to contest this weekend’s Rally Yorkshire Challenge Rally thanks in large part to the dedication and excellent work of Dave Wright at Grove Hill Garage. Not to be forgotten is Matt’s enthusiasm and desire to make sure we are ready to roll.
Gearing up for 2010
And even though the Fiesta crown has passed us by, the British Rally Championship Challenge series is still up for grabs. A strong result will see us clinch the title, and with it, entries into the full British Championship in 2010.
Although we go to the event as favourites, it is by no means going to be easy, with a number of crews able to deny us the crown. Come Saturday morning we’ll put 100% of our focus to the job at hand and by the afternoon we’ll know if we have achieved our goal. It would mean so much to me to help Matt win the championship, just four years after I won the inaugural running with James Wozencroft.
Where you can find me over the next couple weeks
I’ll only have a few days rest following the Rally Yorkshire before I head off to the Isle of Mull in North West Scotland to contest the famous Tour of Mull. I shall once again team up with John Cope in his Subaru Impreza WRC as we bid to claim a win that has eluded John for many years.
Thanks for all your support and thanks to NETELLER for sponsoring me. I hope that we can repay some of your faith this weekend.
Tell us what you think of Robert Fagg’s Ulster video.
Poker in the Park: Day 2
Posted by Lea in Community, Gaming & sports, Poker on August 14th, 2009
Today’s post was written by Lea K (on the left, below). She is the Manager of Consumer Marketing and currently manages all customer marketing programs. Currently, she’s in London for Poker in the Park and she sent in her reactions from the second day.
Poker in the Park is winding down. It’s been a great event. I had a chance to meet hundreds of NETELLER members and probably talked to a thousand visitors about our services. Everyone was very friendly and interested in poker and how NETELLER could help them transfer their money online. I listened to some great lectures (particularly one on “hand analysis”—yes—that high school math will finally come in handy).
Here are a few pictures from Poker in the Park:
The NETELLER stand.
The PKR Pokerdome and Leicester Square.
This is where I wanted to (and possibly did) spend all my time.
Sadly, no one provided the correct pronunciation for Worcestershire so I’m still causing some cringes around the UK office.
Hope to see you at Poker in the Park next year.
