My Net+ prepaid card deserves a gold medal
Posted by Chris in Prepaid cards, Sports on February 23rd, 2010
As I write this blog post surrounded by the Coastal Mountains under another sunny blue sky, it makes me realize how lucky I am to be taking in the 2010 Olympic Winter Games.
Net+ is a great travel companion
After arriving in Vancouver from Calgary, Alberta, I found myself sitting at the Sky Train station counting change for the fare when I realized I didn’t have enough money. (The concert the night before had wreaked havoc on my wallet and head.) Suddenly it occurred to me that this was a job for my new Net+ Prepaid MasterCard®. I quickly found an ATM and had cash in hand before I knew it. The speed and ease of my initial transaction made me glad I’d applied for the card in advance of my trip. Fare taken care of, I soon found myself downtown taking in the Olympic electricity that is energizing Vancouver.

Gold medalist Amy Williams and NETELLER's own Chris Doucher
From the city, I took a bus to the mountain resort village of Whistler, and apparently, so had everyone else. In the few days I’ve been here, I’ve met people from all over the world. Many have told me how lucky I am to live in Canada and that has filled me with an immense sense of pride. The other night I bought a couple of drinks for some new German friends with my Net+ card. Call it prepaid diplomacy. After some high-fives, they went on their way to watch a medal ceremony while I headed over to Araxia restaurant, where I was lucky enough to meet Amy Williams of Great Britain, the Gold Medalist in the women’s Skeleton race.
And now I’m off to soak up more atmosphere before I head back to reality outside of the Olympic bubble.
Cheers!

Transferencias de dinero NETELLER en Sur América
Posted by Gareth in Money Transfer, Products on January 15th, 2010
English version follows

NETELLER Money Transfer in South America
NETELLER members live all around the world, including many in South America. Hola amigos! We know there are a lot of you down there who enjoy using your eWallets and the services within. Today I’ll explain how our South American friends can get the most out of our Money Transfer service.
Let’s say you want to use the internet to send money to someone. It could be a friend in your city, or someone in another country. Or perhaps you or a relative work overseas and want to send money home. You already use the web to share emails, images and files with your friends and family. Shouldn’t a money transfer service be just as simple?
Best situation: sender and recipient both have NETELLER Extended accounts
Money Transfer with NETELLER can be as easy as email, but ideally the sender and recipient should both have Extended eWallets. If the sender has an Extended eWallet and the recipient is not even a NETELLER member, you can still begin a money transfer. However, there are limits to the amount of money the recipient can accept. To take the money out, the recipient will likely want to use one of our Net+ cards, which come with our Extended accounts. So honestly speaking, the best case is for both parties to have an Extended eWallet. Check our blog articles on getting a NETELLER account and upgrading to Extended to learn more. The process takes a bit of time, but the benefits will certainly be worth it.
Options for South Americans living abroad
Let’s say you or your relative/friend live in Europe, and you want to send money to someone in South America. First you’ll need to move funds into the NETELLER eWallet. In several western countries NETELLER has many deposit options for members who want to fund their accounts: instant bank deposits, local bank deposits, credit cards and more. These options vary by country and have different rates and clearing times. Check out what’s available and choose the best one for your needs. Getting funds into your account will be easy, and with Net+ the person on the other end will have no trouble taking the money out. NETELLER Money Transfer is instant, secure, private and affordable. The sender pays a 1% transfer fee up to a maximum of 10 USD.
Options for South Americans at home
Are you a NETELLER member who lives in Argentina, Peru, Chile, Panama or another nearby country? Currently, your deposit options are limited. We understand the depositing challenges our South American members are facing, and we appreciate your patience and continued interest in NETELLER. We suggest you deposit money via our International Bank Deposit option. NETELLER does not charge for this service, and once started it usually takes 2-3 business days. However, there are some things you should be aware of. You will have to find a local bank that can send money out of your country. They charge for this service and sometimes will ask many questions or require lots of paperwork to complete the transaction.
But watch out for…
Another potential problem is the “intermediary bank” issue. Funds deposited via our International Bank Deposit option will eventually arrive at our partner bank, Barclays, which is located in the United Kingdom. However, if your South American bank does not have a direct transfer relationship with a UK or European bank (and many do not), they will often route the transfer via an intermediary bank in the United States. At this point the transfer will fail, because NETELLER cannot accept transfers from US banks. What is the solution? To increase the chance of making a successful deposit check around and see if you can find a bank in your area that has a direct transfer relationship with a UK or European bank.
Getting money out of the NETELLER eWallet
Once you’ve completed a successful Money Transfer, it’s easy to get your hands on the money. With our Net+ Chip & PIN prepaid MasterCard® you can withdraw cash easily at automatic teller machines nearly everywhere. You can also use our Net+ virtual prepaid MasterCard for secure and convenient online shopping.

Net+ prepaid cards have a great first year
Posted by Nicole in Prepaid cards, Products on December 18th, 2009
I can’t believe that our Net+ Chip & PIN and virtual prepaid cards recently celebrated their first birthday. These cards have won international acclaim including being voted the “Best New Prepaid Card Product Launch” at the prestigious Cards & Payments Europe 2009 Awards last June.
Accolades aside, everything we have done with Net+ is to give you the best prepaid cards program around.
Here are 7 reasons why you can be proud to have a Net+ card
- Your privacy and security is always protected from hackers who want to steal your identity or view your personal details.
- With no non-usage or application fees, you can use your card as much or as little as you want. Plus, there are no point-of-sale (POS) fees.
- You get rewards every time you use your card. If you haven’t done so, check out the NETPoints program to learn more.
- Since you only have access to the money that is in your eWallet, it helps to control your spending. And it’s convenient because the cards don’t need to be pre-loaded, they just automatically pull the funds from your eWallet.
- Our VIP members are rewarded with some of the lowest foreign exchange fees around.
- You can access your money more often with some of the highest ATM withdrawal limits in the biz.
- Net+ is the only card on the market to offer 2 versions: Chip & PIN and virtual.
So thank you for helping to make the Net+ prepaid cards some of the premier players on the market.
If you’d like more background on the first year of our Net+ prepaid cards, check out this press release.
Tell us your suggestions about how to enhance the Net+ cards.

A travel guy’s guide to buying online this Christmas
Posted by Niclas in Community, Guest posts on December 16th, 2009
Today’s post was written by guest blogger Niclas Aarestrup from Denmark. He is a travel writer and he uses his Net+ card everywhere. Follow him on Twitter today (http://twitter.com/niclasaa) and keep up with his latest travels.
The time to be with near and dear ones is fast-approaching, but it’s also the time to give and receive. Yes, the race for this year’s Christmas gifts is intensifying. Many people are discovering they can save quite a bit of money buying things online. You not only benefit from lower prices, but often from a much larger selection.
Shop the world, but read the fine print
Shopping online opens a world of gift-giving possibilities. You are no longer limited to merchants in your own country. But be aware, finding bargains by buying abroad might mean high shipping costs, taxes and other fees. Take extra care reading the merchant’s terms and conditions since the consumer protection policy might be different than what you are familiar with.
Gift buying within the European Union
If you live within the European Union and decide to buy from an EU merchant, things are a little simpler. You might still find shipping costs to be fairly high, but the price you pay on a merchant’s website includes all taxes. In terms of consumer protection you are also better off. If the merchant you regularly buy from actively advertises in your country, they are bound by the consumer protection laws that are in effect there.
You will also have a minimum of 7 days to return the purchase, but remember that certain restrictions apply to this rule. Check with the merchant and/or your national European consumer centre. You can find more information on this subject at the European Commission’s website.
Pay online securely with Net+
The safest way to pay for your goods online is to use debit or credit cards. Bank transfers, wire transfers and Western Union all seem like good methods, but keep in mind that they all provide minimal protection and should only be used if you know the merchant.
But if you’re a member of NETELLER you’re in luck because it offers an extremely secure solution to shopping online with its Net+ virtual prepaid card. It will help to control your online spending, which is great, especially if you get caught up in the spirit of the season. The only money available to you is what you have deposited in your NETELLER eWallet.
The beauty of the Net+ virtual prepaid card is that it generates a one-time use card number so that your purchases and money are protected when you’re online. Even though it has great security features, always make sure when buying online that you are on an encrypted page when you enter your payment details. These usually have an address that starts with https and most web browsers will display a closed lock to indicate that the data is encrypted.
Here are some sites I have used and may help you with your Christmas shopping:
- Amazon is not limited to books. You can find all kinds of goodies at their site, but shipping destinations may be limited. And the Amazon site is also available these countries : Canada - China – France – Germany – Japan – United Kingdom
- Harrods, the renowned London department store is also online. Why not get their famous Christmas teddy bear?
- Pricerunner lets you compare prices on many products. They not only list online merchants, but also high-end retailers. You can also compare prices among countries. You can also check out a Pricerunner site closer to home: United Kingdom – France – Germany – Austria – Sweden – Denmark
- Conrad offers all kinds of electronics, gadgets and hobby products at fair prices. They ship to most countries.
- Hamleys, the world famous London-based toy store ships to most destinations.
- Model trains and accessories are available at Factory Direct Trains, which ships worldwide.
Tell me some of your tips to shopping online.
Save and win with your Net+ prepaid card on Ryanair
Posted by Chris in Prepaid cards, Products, Rewards & promotions, Travel on December 15th, 2009
Using the Net+ Chip & PIN prepaid card has always been a great way to book flights both domestically and abroad, and according to a news article published on the Ryanair site, there is another great reason to book with Net+. Starting 1 January, the only way to buy a Ryanair flight without incurring transaction fees will be by using a MasterCard prepaid card.
Customers who have taken out Visa Electron cards to beat the airline’s sky-high card charges will, from next month, face the same £5-a-leg fee as customers using conventional debit and credit cards.
A recent Guardian article reviewed many MasterCard prepaid cards. Pity they didn’t get to the Net+ Chip & PIN prepaid card: it handily meets or beats them all. And many of our members have already successfully booked flights with Ryanair.
Not a NETELLER member yet? Book with Net+ for a chance to win 50 EUR
If you’re not a NETELLER member yet, simply sign up for a NETELLER account, get a Net+ Chip & PIN (physical) prepaid card and use it to book a flight on Ryanair by January 31, 2010 and you will be eligible to win 50 EUR!*
Unfortunately, the Net+ virtual prepaid card is currently not recognized by Ryanair as a prepaid card, as it is incorrectly designated by our card issuer. We are working to get this problem resolved as soon as possible.
Rest assured, the Net+ Chip & PIN prepaid card is properly designated and will work when booking with Ryanair.
Already a NETELLER member?
Don’t worry, we’re always looking for ways that you can also pocket some extra cash. Refer friends to NETELLER using the “Refer a Friend” link on the Quicklinks in your account and if they sign up and deposit, you’ll earn up to 16 EUR for each referral. Not too shabby, hey?
Notable Net+ perks
Here are some great reasons why the Net+ cards are considered some of the best on the market:
- No hidden fees! This means you will never be charged an application or non-usage fee. And to clarify, you will not be charged a monthly fee just to have the card.
- Get rewards every time you use it! Most companies charge you to use their cards, but we like to give a little something back to our members! Check out our NETPoints program to learn more.
- Choose from 8 currencies. For those of you who travel or just want access to other currencies, this is a must-have.
- It’s a pretty slick-looking card that’s won 2 awards. How many other prepaid MasterCards can boast about that?
For more great reasons why you should have a Net+ card, check out Nicole’s top 10 list. In the meantime, start booking your flights.
Have you used your Net+ Prepaid MasterCard to book with Ryanair? Tell us how it was for you.

High ATM withdrawal limits on Net+ prepaid cards
Posted by Nicole in Prepaid cards, Products on November 15th, 2009
Today’s post was written by Nicole. She is the Marketing Manager for Consumer Products on our Brand and Group Marketing team.
If you’re like me, you probably don’t give ATM withdrawal limits a second thought, until you need quick access to your cash. I like prepaid cards with high withdrawal limits because having enough pocket money on-hand is good, especially if you’re nowhere near a bank or a cash machine.
No low limits with Net+
When choosing a prepaid card, consider how ATM withdrawal limits compare to withdrawal fees. I’m always cautious of any card company that offers low ATM withdrawal fees because most of the time they also have low withdrawal limits. And that’s not very helpful.
That’s why I’m pleased my Net+ prepaid card offers high ATM withdrawal limits. Just make sure the bank machine you’re using doesn’t have low restrictions. That way you can better access your cash when you need it, in just 1 withdrawal.
Knowledge is more money in your wallet
Do your research, and spend more time enjoying your money and less time at the ATM thanks to high withdrawal limits on a prepaid card like Net+.
Do you have a Net+ prepaid card? Tell us what you think of its high withdrawal limits.
