Instant deposit options for German members: DirectEbanking and giropay

Are you a NETELLER member residing in Germany? Lucky you! For our German members we provide several convenient deposit options for funding your NETELLER account. Among the instant choices, DirectEbanking (Sofortüberweising) and giropay are among the most popular. These 2 transaction methods allow you to move money instantly from your local bank account to your NETELLER eWallet.

Have your info ready

Though these deposit options are instant, you will need to do some leg work before attempting your first deposit. This means contacting the bank where you have your local account, and finding out if they have a working relationship with DirectEbanking and/or giropay. Also ask the bank to provide you with a special PIN number (if needed), plus a series of unique TANs (transaction authorisation numbers) for doing multiple future deposits. With this info in hand, you are ready to go!

Press play on the video below to see how deposits with DirectEbanking and giropay work.

How much does it cost?

Giropay deposits are only charged at 1.5%. DirectEbanking deposits are free! The only other possible charges from NETELLER come from currency conversion. If your eWallet is not in the EUR currency, a 2.5% FX (foreign exchange) fee is levied.

How to make a credit card or debit card deposit

Many of our members like using their Visa or MasterCard credit cards to deposit money into their NETELLER accounts. If you haven’t tried this deposit option before, or are wondering how it works, check out this helpful demo video:

In addition to credit cards, NETELLER also accepts debit card deposits. Your Visa Electron, Visa Debit, Maestro Solo, Carte Bleue National or CartaSi cards are welcome here. Once a credit card or debit card deposit is completed, the funds will be instantly available in your account.

Limits and fees

Both Express and Extended members may deposit by credit card or debit card. Extended and VIP members have higher deposit limits than Express members. How much are you allowed to deposit? After you sign in and go to the “Deposit” tab, simply mouse over the green “?” mark to see your own deposit limits. Please be aware of the 1.75% deposit fee. By becoming a NETELLER VIP, you can exchange your NETPoints for free deposits.

Deposit declined?

Not all NETELLER credit card deposits succeed. If you start the deposit process and find out your transaction was declined, here are some possible reasons:

  • Your card issuer does not permit transactions to NETELLER
  • Deposit limits exceeded
  • Incorrect card info entered
  • Card not enabled for online shopping (eg. Verified by Visa)
  • Need to clear your browser cache or cookies

Other deposit options

If you’re still not having any luck with credit card or debit card deposits, don’t worry. NETELLER has several other deposit options for you to try. In many countries we take free Local Bank Deposits, Ukash vouchers, or Instant Bank Deposits such as POLi, DIRECTebanking/Sofortüberweisung, iDeal or giropay. All members around the world can deposit using International Bank Transfers. Fees and processing times vary for each of these options.

For even more detailed information about credit and debit card deposits, please visit our FAQ page.

How to make a free Local Bank Deposit

Let’s say you’ve just opened your free NETELLER eWallet account. You’re probably wondering: how do I put money into it? Funding your account is relatively easy. NETELLER offers several different funding options. In many countries you can fund by free Local Bank Deposit. With this method, money is transferred from your personal bank account to a NETELLER bank account located in your country. From there we move the funds easily to your eWallet.

2 steps to fund your eWallet

  1. To start a Local Bank Deposit, you first sign in to your NETELLER account and create a “placeholder” for the transaction. This placeholder is simply telling NETELLER to expect a certain amount of money coming from your personal bank account. After initiating the Local Bank Deposit in your NETELLER eWallet you will be given a reference number. You will also be given the details of the NETELLER bank account in your country.
  2. After the placeholder is created, you complete the transaction by dealing with your own bank. You can visit your branch in person or use telephone or internet banking. All you need to do is tell the bank how much money you want to send, where to send it and give them the reference number. If you plan on making multiple transfers to your eWallet in the future, you may also register the NETELLER bank account as a regular payee.

Seeing is believing

Want to see what step 1 of the Local Bank Deposit process looks like for a member in the United Kingdom? Check out this helpful demo video:

Local Bank Deposits are always free from NETELLER, but your own bank may charge a small fee to complete the transfer. The speed of the transaction also depends on your bank. Typically Local Bank Deposits are completed in 2 to 5 business days.

Availability

If your NETELLER account is registered in one of these countries, you will be able to use Local Bank Deposits:

Austria Germany Japan Poland
Belgium Gibraltar Latvia Portugal
Bulgaria Greece Liechtenstein Réunion
Cyprus Guadeloupe Lithuania Romania
Czech Republic Hungary Luxembourg Slovakia
Denmark Iceland Malta Slovenia
Estonia India Martinique Spain
Finland Ireland Netherlands Sweden
France Italy Norway United Kingdom
French Guiana

For more details about Local Bank Deposits, please read this FAQ.

An education in declined credit card and debit card transactions

There has been a lot of talk in the online community about credit and debit card transactions being declined when depositing to certain sites, so I thought I would take some time to explain why this happens.

There are a number of reasons why credit and debit card transactions get declined. One of the most common reasons is transaction coding. All card transactions are coded and certain codes will be declined by the card issuer regardless of whether or not the funds are available. Each card issuer has their own policies around transaction coding and if you have experienced a lot of declines to your NETELLER account or merchant account, you can contact your card issuer to find out if this is the reason.

If you find yourself running into this issue, there are a few things you can do:

  1. Try the transaction again with a lesser amount
  2. Use a different card. As I mentioned, each card issuer has their own policies so another card may work
  3. Try another deposit option

Use Local Bank Deposits

We offer many deposit methods ranging from bank transfers to instant deposits. For many countries that experience a high rate of declines, we offer Local Bank Deposits as an alternative payment method. It’s free and you’ll have access to your funds in 3 to 5 days. You also get higher deposit limits with Local Bank Deposits (up to your account limits).

We also offer a variety of instant bank deposit options that vary by country. To find out if any of these deposit options are available to you, sign in to your account and select the “Deposit” tab.

Try one of our alternative deposit options and let us know what you think!
