Sports-in-a-Box South Africa #6
Posted by Danny in Guest posts, Sports, Travel on July 26th, 2010
NETELLER has partnered with Sports-in-a-Box to support them in their endeavors in South Africa. NETELLER has armed 3 of the Sports-in-a-Box Youth Leaders with preloaded Net+ cards for their travel expenses, and to help them take full advantage of this great opportunity. They will be our “people on the ground, ” telling us their own personal experience of both the World Cup and South Africa, giving us a sense of what it is really like to be there.
WOW! So the end of the World Cup has come and gone and now I’m back home going through major withdrawal. The experiences of being in South Africa for the first World Cup on African soil and seeing my favourite team winning are incomparable and something I will never forget. However, that is not the only thing that I will take away from this trip. I will miss the incredible group of people I was lucky enough to spend the last 3 weeks with, from the 17 people who I met on our journey to South Africa to the handful of people in Cape Town who were not only the best of hosts but became lifelong friends. I feel so incredibly lucky to have been part of the Sports-in-a-Box program that took me to Cape Town as I’ve taken away so many memories, and more importantly I have learned a lot about a nation full of potential and myself.
There is truly nothing like learning through experience. I could spend years reading about South Africa and the issues at hand there, but I feel a lot more enlightened after spending 3 weeks there and simply talking to the people. It’s a nation trying to move forward from a difficult past – an apartheid law that existed within my lifetime. No one should try to kid themselves and pretend it never happened despite the country’s great attempts to do so. Even during our trip there was tangible evidence of overt racism. However, there is so much potential and a great desire to move forward. I think it’s a nation that needs time to heal and move forward, as there are already so many great things happening there.
This is where I will end my blog as I could continue on for ages about all that I have done and all that I’ve learned. I can only say I am so thankful for this opportunity and experience, and I encourage anyone reading this to consider traveling to South Africa and/or to Brazil for a World Cup experience.

Only 6 more days until the World Cup ends and I’m beginning to accept that I will go through a long withdrawal process. The excitement of Bafano Bafano’s tie with Mexico before my departure, attending 2 games here in Cape Town, and experiencing the disappointment of a continent following Ghana’s loss to Uruguay are memories that will last a lifetime. The 2 games I witnessed at Greenpoint Stadium—Netherlands vs. Cameroon and Spain vs. Portugal—were filled with excitement, vuvuzelas and the feeling of being surrounded by soccer fans from around the world. Nothing can compare. You can go around to anyone to say cheers, take a photo and of course blow your vuvuzela, and post-game the streets are all a ruckus as you make your way back home from the waterfront area. All in all, words cannot do the World Cup justice, so try to be in Brazil for 2014!
P.S. Vuvuzelas are abundant but not nearly as loud in the stadium as they sound on the TV broadcasts.

England’s final warm-up
Posted by Jon Combe in Gaming & sports, Sports on May 28th, 2010
Some 5000 miles and just 12 days from this game to the opening of the 2010 FIFA Football World Cup in South Africa, the English and Japanese players will be preparing for their final warm-up match at the England vs Japan Friendly in Graz, Austria.
While England has been dealt a kinder hand in Group C, Japan will have a much tougher battle on their hands against the bigger, physical Dutch, Danes and Cameroons in Group E. This really is last chance saloon to gear up their current squad against a much taller defensive line.
Though the venue may be the comparatively tiny UPC-Arena, formerly known as the Arnold Schwarzenegger Stadium, players from both sides are there solely to out-muscle their opponents and swing into the competition on a winning high. Don't be fooled by this game's "friendly" status – the pressure riding on the players' shoulders is immense. Neither side can afford to lose anyone through injury or a silly caution, but any hint of complacency, a lack of confidence or nerves on the eve of The Big One will be jumped on immediately by both their own manager and their opponents that day, and those waiting for them in South Africa.
Africa's first World Cup promises to be excellent and it'll take a brave soul to pick a winner with such quality on offer this time around. It is likely whoever survives Group G (Brazil, North Korea, Ivory Coast and Portugal) will be the team to beat but I'd love England to make the final for the first time in my lifetime. And hopefully not the last!

NETELLER Showcase helps stimulate referral activity

As the Affiliate Account Manager for NETELLER, affiliates always ask me what they can do to earn more in commissions. A great way affiliates can make fast cash is to motivate their referrals to use NETELLER for deposits at merchant sites.
1 way to stimulate your referral activity is with the NETELLER Showcase. Here you will find:
- 1-stop shopping for all current offers and bonuses
- Exclusive NETELLER offers from NETELLER merchants
- Access to merchants that accept NETELLER payments
- Available to NETELLER Members in 130+ countries
We always add new promotions, so have your referrals check out the NETELLER Showcase regularly and often! You should also take a look at the upcoming NETELLER sponsored tournaments page.
The unique link is key
The most important link that you need to have on your site is the unique link retrieved from your NETELLER account. This will ensure that everyone you refer to NETELLER is connected back to you.
What you need to do:
- Choose a banner from NETELLER Showcase – for example:
- Embed your unique link into this banner.

It is imperative that your referrals’ session follows these 4 steps:
- Referral clicks on the logo you have selected
- Referral opens a new NETELLER Account
- Referral deposits funds into his/her NETELLER account
- Referral uses the NETELLER option to deposit at a merchant site
Once complete, if you are a gambling or a betting affiliate, both you and your referral will earn a commission based on your referrals’ first NETELLER deposit amount at the merchant site.* Many of our gambling affiliates educate their referrals right on their homepage to ensure they are going through the proper steps to ensure a commission. Hope this helps!
Questions? Give me a shout at affiliate@neteller.com

Everton FC at Tottenham Hotspur with NETELLER and Mansion
Posted by Brendan in Gaming & sports, Sports on March 1st, 2010
It started off as any normal match day, a train to White Hart Lane and a stroll to the ground. But that’s where the normality stopped. We were greeted at reception with our passes for the day, which were kindly supplied by Mansion and made our way to the 4th floor Directors Box.
The hospitality was superb: champagne on entrance that was filled as soon as the last drop had left the glass and a buffet table that wouldn’t look out of place on a 5 star cruise ship. We made our way through to the main ground to place a bet with www.mansion.com. My bets were first scorer Pavlyuchenko and final score 3-1.

Everton FC at Tottenham Hotspur
But we weren’t there for the ambiance — we were there for the match. Our seats were right on the halfway line and provided a great view for the opening goal on 11 minutes. Huddlestone’s long ball put Defoe behind the defence and he fired across goal for “Super Pav” to slide home his fifth in the space of a week! We didn’t have to wait long for the second goal as Spurs’s Croatian contingent linked up neatly on the right-hand corner of the box before Modric curled an exquisite looping effort in off the bar. Spurs had a handful of decent chances to increase the lead but it finished 2-0 at the break as we made our way back into the box to warm up whilst we brushed shoulders with high profile businessmen and ex professionals.
The second half started with pressure building from Everton and they made a breakthrough on 54 minutes, a goal mouth scramble led to Yakubu bundling home, 2-1. Soon after an injury for Huddlestone meant Spurs were forced into a defensive game for the remaining 35 minutes. Pressure started to build again but Spurs were able to hold on for a deserved 2-1 victory.
I had a truly magnificent day and would like to extend my thanks to the people at Manson for their hospitality. But now I must be off to mansion.com to collect my winnings.
Up the Spurs!
